Mental health and wellbeing fact sheet
You may be asked to support someone who is living with poor mental health. Every year a quarter of the population experience a mental health problem and a friendly chat can help them through a difficult time. You may not be aware of their mental health and this may not even be discussed during your conversation.
One of the amazing things you can offer as a Check In and Chat volunteer is your listening skills. The 5 steps to mental wellbeing are a great way to talk about things someone could do to improve their mental health and the NHS offers more advice on mental health and wellbeing on the Every Mind Matters website.
